About NextRoom.io

Every great text adventure has that moment — you type a command, press enter, and suddenly you're somewhere new. A dark cellar. A moonlit garden. A space station corridor humming with distant engines. NextRoom.io exists to celebrate that feeling and help you find your next great adventure.
Parser & Choice
We cover both traditions of interactive fiction. Parser games — where you type commands like OPEN DOOR or EXAMINE PAINTING — descend from the original Zork and Colossal Cave. Choice-based games let you click through branching narratives, from Twine experiments to polished commercial releases. Both are valid. Both can be art.
What We Look For
A good review asks how well a game uses its medium. Does the prose pull you in? Do the puzzles feel fair? Does the interactivity add something a static story couldn't? We care about craft — the sentence-level writing, the pacing, the way a game teaches its mechanics without breaking immersion. But we also care about heart. The best interactive fiction stays with you.
Who's Behind This
NextRoom.io is written by Thorsten Harms, a longtime fan of interactive fiction and creator of CAVE, an authoring system for writing your own text adventures. The reviews here reflect one person's taste — opinionated, hopefully fair, always in love with the form.
